In Loving Memory of John Walhof
John Walhof was born on May 4, 1938, to Charles and Annetta Walhof in Artesia, California. When John was just four years old, his father passed away. He was raised by his mother alongside his brother and sister. John attended Bellflower Christian School from first through twelfth grade, graduating from high school in 1956.
During his middle and high school years, John worked as a ranch hand at several dairies. After graduating, he continued working in the dairy industry, milking cows. During this time, he suffered a broken leg that left him disabled for approximately two years.
In 1959, John married Lucy Van Zwaluwenburg in Arcadia, California. Together, they made their home in Artesia and began building a life centered on family, hard work, and faith. Following his recovery, John worked for North American Space, Douglas Space, and various contractors.
In 1985, John obtained his California contractor’s license and established Walhof Construction, which he operated until 2004. He was especially grateful for the opportunity to work alongside his oldest son in the construction business for 20 years.
John and Lucy also served as janitors at Trinity from 1979 until their retirement in 2004. After retiring, they enjoyed traveling together to many places throughout the United States, as well as visiting the Netherlands.
John and Lucy treasured the time they spent with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Their faith and church family were an important part of their lives, and they enjoyed serving their church community. John was particularly involved in the audio-visual ministry, recording church services and helping make them available through online livestreaming.
In October 2025, John said goodbye to his beloved wife, Lucy. After sharing so many years of marriage and memories together, her passing marked a difficult chapter in his life.
More recently, John traveled to Texas to visit his son Jim, Jim’s wife, Melanie, as well as Megan, Daniel, and the grandchildren who live there. This visit provided another opportunity to spend precious time with family.
John touched the lives of many through his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and his faithful service to his church. He leaves behind a legacy of love, commitment, and cherished memories that will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew him.
John will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
